Forging Trails, Building Community

The 2024 Beaver Flat 50 marked another milestone for trail running in Saskatchewan. Hosting the inaugural Provincial Trail Running Championships brought an extra layer of prestige, with runners in the 10k, 20k, and 50k races competing for championship titles across their age categories. A total of 51 gold medal champions were crowned, reflecting the breadth of talent across all distances.
This year also saw the launch of the Sask Trail Running Junior Development Program, paving the way for the future of trail running in the province. Partnering with Sask Athletics and Prairie Run Crew, the initiative used the 10k race as a qualifier for the U20 Mountain Running Nationals in Quebec. Three junior athletes met the national standard, ensuring Saskatchewan’s representation on a broader stage and fostering the next generation of trail runners.
Volunteers, the backbone of the race, contributed tirelessly to its success. Over 90 individuals stepped up to support every aspect of the event, from aid stations and timing to registration and course marshalling. Their dedication ensured a seamless experience, embodying the race’s ethos of connection and collaboration.
Prairie Sky Running Co. and its events, like the Beaver Flat 50 and Reesor50, embody the rugged beauty and unyielding spirit of Saskatchewan’s landscapes. These races challenge participants with steep climbs, rugged trails, and breathtaking views, proving that the prairies are anything but flat. This spirit of perseverance and adventure resonates throughout the community of runners, volunteers, and supporters who come together to make these events memorable .
The races emphasize more than just physical endurance—they celebrate a connection to the land and the unity of the people. Sponsors and partners play a crucial role in this shared vision, offering resources and creating a sense of community that extends beyond race day. Organizations like Tourism Saskatchewan, Ciele Athletics, and local businesses contribute to the event’s success, highlighting the importance of collaboration in fostering a vibrant, welcoming atmosphere .
The courses are a reflection of the land’s spirit—untamed, challenging, and rewarding. From narrow animal trails to sweeping prairie vistas, participants experience the raw and inspiring beauty of the region, making every step a testament to resilience and connection to nature

From start to finish, everything was incredibly well-organized. The aid stations were top-notch, and the medics were reassuring and so helpful. I also appreciated how clear and detailed the communication was throughout the event—it made a real difference…My "ultra" buddy…and I traveled all the way from Ontario to be part of this, and although there were definitely moments where we felt like we were being punished for our decision, it was in the best possible way!

Your race is wild, amazing, savage, beautiful. The race directors, the volunteers are exceptional. No wonder why your event is sold out. I will have to come back next year and do better. Thank you for a beautiful experience.

"Our goal has always been more than organizing races—it’s about creating experiences that connect people to the land, to each other, and to their own potential. Our races are a celebration of resilience, community, and the untamed beauty of Saskatchewan."
